Still Life

1.Describe the craftsmanship of your drawing.
I used pencil to create a realistic still life drawing with shading.
2.Are your values and shadows realistic? How many values did you include? How and why are values important?
I tried to use as many values as I could but I probably could have gone a little darker. Values are important because they show the shadows and how the light hits to object. It's what creates a realistic look.
3.Is there a clear source of lighting?
I probably could have done a little better with this but I think the lighting looks pretty good
4.How important were the compositional sketches. Explain.
The compositional sketches were important because I got to figure out which objects I liked drawing more and experimented with a few different things. I chose one of the compositional sketches to do for my final still life piece.
5.How is your final drawing successful?
My final drawing is successful because I was able to draw the whole thing and include values, shadows, and realistic features of the still life object.
6.Are the proportions, structure and perspective of the subject correct?
I think the proportions, structure, and perspective are mostly right. The only thing is that I feel like the objects don't match up because some are more realistic and some are more impressionistic-like.
7.Does the placement & grouping of objects create a pleasing arrangement (composition)?
I tried to pick a spot in the still life that had pieces I would like to draw but also an arrangement that was pleasing to whomever looking at my still life, so I think I did well with this.
8.Is there a center of interest and is it well located?
The center of interest is probably the elephant, because it is mostly in the middle of the piece.
9.How well did you manage your time and resources throughout the process of creating this drawing? Do you see where you could improve in this area?
I think I managed my time well in class.
10.What challenges did you encounter during this project and how did you overcome them?
I had trouble doing the flower at the top but I just decided to go for it and I think I did pretty well with it!
11.What have you learned drawing a still life?
While drawing this still life, I have learned what I am good at drawing and what I am not good at drawing. I have also learned that I need to stop being "afraid of the dark" and just go darker with my values because it will create a more realistic look. I have also learned that I really like using color in my pieces so this was a little difficult for me, to do the whole thing in pencil.

Final Fabric

1. Did you use a wide range of values? Explain how this is evident.
Yes. It is evident in my piece that I used a wide range of values. I tried to blend really well to create the look and folds of the fabric. The white colored pencil is the light parts of it and I also used black pencil to darken it.

2. Explain how your knowledge and creating practice studies with value contributed to your piece.
Practicing the fabric piece really helped because I was able to find out what type of medium I liked the best and how to actually draw fabric. I think I made a lot of progress since my first time drawing fabric.

3. Describe the blending and transitions in your fabric (discuss your use of pressure with pencil/colored pencil/charcoal pencil and other techniques to achieve this.)
I blended from white to black through prismacolor colored pencils and I used pressure without blending to create the light/dark contrast.

4. Explain how your interpretation of texture is essential in capturing the look of the object.
Texture is very important when drawing because it makes the piece 3D and gives people the opportunity to see what the object would really look like.

5. If you could recreate your pieces what would you do differently to enhance the final outcome?
If I could recreate it, I would probably try using different colored color pencils or use charcoal, just to get more practice with different types of drawing.

Shading

We have begun learning how to shade. These are some shape drawings I have done with pencil or charcoal:
We also drew ribbons:

Fabric

We have started drawing fabric and these are my practice ones. The first picture is of the one with white colored pencil/white charcoal and pencil on a colored sheet of paper. The second picture has two: the top one just pencil and the second one black charcoal.
I decided for my final to do the white charcoal because I think it looks the best and I am the best at it. My pencil one isn't very good because it was my first and I was still figuring out how to draw fabric. The charcoal could have been blended more. But I really like the white charcoal/pencil.

Contour Room

1.Did you use a fluid line? Explain how this is evident.
Yes, I used a fluid line. This is evident because the lines all connect and it is not sketchy.

2. Explain how your knowledge and creating practice studies with contour line contributed to the success of your piece.
I did a practice study of the same area in the room that I drew. I got to see what I didn't like the first time I drew and I tried to fix it the second time.

3.Describe the difference in your contour line drawing to an outline drawing.
An outline would have not had any details. As I am drawing in contour lines, I get all the details of one area before I move onto the next.

4.Explain how your interpretation of line is essential in capturing the look of the room.
My interpretation of line is essential because I need to understand how to do contour lines but also which lines are important to draw in the room in order to capture the look of the room.

5.What did you learn from completing this drawing? If you could recreate your piece what would you do differently to enhance the final outcome?
If I could recreate this drawing, I would definitely try to figure out the perspective thing a little better because I have forgotten how to do that somewhat. I also could have paid more attention to detail. I think I was just overwhelmed with all of it- I need more patience.

Hand Drawings

The first thing we did was draw out hand, shaded. This is my hand:

So far in drawing class, we have been learning how to do contour drawing. Contour drawing is when you draw without lifting your pen. It is a singular fee-flowing line. We first did blind contour where we could not look at what we were drawing. These are those:

Then we did modified contour where we could look at what we were drawing. I mostly drew my hand but I also started drawing my cracked phone. I think the cracks look really cool with contour.

Plaster- Extra Credit

I used a granola bar box and filled it in with plaster to create my sculptures shape. I then carved it out and created designs on the sides, not particualarlly having a plan so it was sort of abstract. But it ended up having a theme a theme I did not realize- spongebob! Flowers clouds on the top, spongebob on the ends, curved lines on the side like water, and triangles the could be Patrick.
