Light Project

In class, we spent a few days "light painting".  Most people reading this probably don't know what that is, so I will explain it.  We basically turned the lights off, and videoed ourselves waving around glow sticks and mini flashlight things.  The video was then compiled into one picture, so that it shows the things we drew with the light.
My group created Zeus with light.  We had someone model as Zeus, I created the lightning bolt with a yellow glow stick, and then we had a green leaf crown and a white outline of the whole body, because he is supposed to kind of glow.
I think this project was really cool, and we got to play around with a lot of things, and learn how do paint a different way.  It was also really fun :)

Painting

    

This part of art, painting, is one that I really like.  We learned about colors, how to mix them and the color wheel and things like that.  And then we learned how to draw clouds and trees, both of which I used in my large canvas painting.  We first went to the lab to pick out references, and printed out possible things that we would like to paint, but it had to be a landscape, or scenery.This was my reference, or the thing that I chose to paint:

Here is me in the process of trying to creating my landscape, which is Schwarzsee, Switzerland, a beautiful place with tons of mountains like the ones in the picture.  I picked this picture because I thought it would end up looking like a really pretty painting, and also because I LOVE Switzerland. (for some odd reason, I have no idea what it is...)

I started out doing the sky, and then the clouds, which is one of the things I'm proud of.  I then started on the mountains and got the basic color and shape of it, along with the lake.  That's pretty much what the picture above is.

The picture below is me finishing up the painting, and I added trees in the mountains and added lighting and reflection to the water.

And then finally, the picture below is my finished piece.   I am pretty proud of this, and I think I have improved a lot.  I worked hard and it paid off.  And I added a boat :)

Clay and Sculpting

In our library, we are fortunate enough to have a class set of iPads that we are allowed to use for our art class.  There is an app called "123d sculpt" and you can use it to sculpt and make something out of clay on the app.  This is sometimes used for models of something artists are actually going to make, or it can just be used for fun.  We used these iPads and made a model of an actual clay sculpture we were going to make.

This is the model I made, and it is sort of supposed to be like an alien type of thing.  But it has a mustache.

This is the actual clay model I made, but it is different than the model on the iPad because I decided I wanted to do something different.  This is a teddy bear, and if you didn't notice, it has a bow tie  which is probably the most important part of the whole thing.

The bear is hollow, but it has little balls inside, so that when it goes into the kilt and hardens, we can shake it and it will be a rattle thing.  I really like clay, so this was a fun subject for me :)

Mud and Zentangles!

For this unit, which included using mud, and creating zentangles, we did a few projects.  First, we played a little bit with the mud, to get used to the feel and to get ready for up coming projects.  To do this, we went outside our art trailer and painted the sidewalk how ever we like.

Zohara and I decided to paint my shadow!

We used different colored mud to give it a sort of feathery feel to it.

After doing this, we then experimented with colored mud, and painted the sidewalk, but we decided to be a little more creative with it so we painted these large rocks next to our classroom.  And they were also zentangles so they looked really cool.

(Zentangles are basically a bunch of crazy lines and shapes that make a big mess of patterns.)

After practicing the zentangles and working with the mud, we moved to our school's courtyard and painted the walls.

First, we started out painting the outline of my body, to make the shape of the first part of our zentangle.

We then painted inside of it, and created a zentangle.  But, that wasn't enough because we had to paint the whole entire wall that we picked, (which just so happened to be a very large one) so we continued on the outside.  We ended up filling in most of the wall, and making a pretty cool zentangle :)

Midterm Post

I think this project, the spray paint project, must have been my most successful project.  It was probably my most accurate project, and worked the best.  I really enjoyed this project as well, because we got to spray paint, and do lots of different things with it.  Really, the only thing that was wrong with it was that some of the colors didn't match up exactly, but they did for the most part.

These are the two projects that I learned from the most.  Shading is probably one of the biggest things I've gotten out of this class.  Now, these projects were not my best... at all.. probably my worst.. but I think I learned most from them.  First, the turtle one taught me a lot about shading, and when to use it and stuff.  The self portrait taught me a lot, like face measurements, and where facial features go and all that.  Shading was also a big part of that project as well.  And, for both of these projects, just drawing in general is what I have improved on.

Printing Project

For this "printing project," first, we printed out pictures of an animal of our choice.  I picked the blue bird.  We also printed out a couple backgrounds that would go with that animal, so that when we draw this, we have an idea of what our animal and the background looks like.  I then drew my blue bird, and my background, which was basically a branch, where the bird would sit.  While drawing, we had to pay attention to how it was going to look on the rubber, which we used to make the print.  I added lines to the bird that kind of went with the flow of it's feathers, so it had texture and looked natural (kinda haha) Then, I put the rubber underneath of the paper, and tracing what I drew, so that it would translate onto the rubber.  Then I used a knife type of thing, and carved out my bird onto the rubber.  All the shaded in parts we cut out as well.  After this was finished, I used a paint roller to roll the paint on my rubber print thing and then laid it on a piece of paper.  It now looks like this! 

This was not the best print that I made, and I have some better ones, but this is basically what it is supposed to look like.  I also added a Santa hat for the fun of it. :)  Also if you turn your head sideways (clockwise) It looks like a weird different kind of bird... I totally did that on purpose..

And also there is my wonderful face (on the right) in the process of this making this project, with my paint roller.

I think this project was really fun and I learned some things from it.  I think I did mostly well on it, but I could have made it a bit more real looking.  Over all, I think i did pretty well!

Spray Paint Portraits

This is our work in progress :)

This project was really cool, and fun.  First, Mr. Sands took a picture of us, and we used photoshop to make the picture into only a few colors.  We projected this new photo on the wall and traced one of the colors onto a piece of cardstock, and conntinued this with all the colors.  Then, we cut out all the shapes and used the outline of the shapes to make the above photo. After doing this, we made a frame for the portraits.  We sawed wood and used nails to keep them together.  Then, we staple gunned cardboard to the back.  Taking one of the pieces of cardstock, We stuck it in the frame and spray painted the color that went with that paper.  We continued this and it became the picture that we created in photoshop.  I think this was a really cool project and it was awesome how it al came together in the end, even though it was a really long process.  My project was mostly well done, exept at the end some of it did not line up.  But I think it all looks good.

Stencil Self Portrait

For this project, we had to draw ourselves.  We measured most of our head and facial structures and learned where they go, generally.  We learned how to use value, and shading in our portraits, so that it looked more real.  Before this project, we learned how to draw an eye, a nose, a mouth, and hair individually, using a partner, so eventually we would be able to draw this.  I tried to make this look like me (even if it doesn't), and we used a mirror to do so.  I think I did well on this project, especially on the face, but my weakest spot was probably the hair, and the placement of one of the eyes.  Drawing curly hair is hard.  But overall, I think I did really good!

Spray Paint Project

This is for an upcoming project that we are going to do.  On photoshop, I reduced the colors to three to four colors so that it will be easier to spraypaint later in the project.  I picked colors that would work with the paint we have and the colors resemble the different lighting in the picture.  But, I'm mostly putting this on the blog so it won't get lost.

Value Scale Drawing

This is my drawing of a sea turtle swimming in the ocean.  We printed out a picture of our choice, and outlines the specific and different light values throughout this photo.  We then transfered it onto a piece of paper through multiple steps and colored it in like it is in the photo.  I think I did pretty well on this project and I got most of the lighting correct on it.  The most difficult project was probably the turtle, because it was a lot more complex then the rest of the picture.  I learned that shading is very important when drawing and takes a lot of time.

Flower

On Photoshop today, we took a photo that had more that two colors in it and made it so it only had two colors.  We also made it more simple so that we will be able to draw it on the sidewalk as a later project.

Butterfly Shadow

This is a picture of my art on photoshop.  We learned how to create shadows on pictures and we also were able to remove the background of the picture from the last lesson.  I chose a butterfly because it is something that flies and I think it would be perfect to use to make a shadow for.

Rhino at the beach

Today we worked on photoshot and learned how to copy and paste.  We got this rhino picture and removed the background, then gave it a new one.  I think i did well on this and it was cool learning how to use photoshop.

Chic

These are my drawings of Chic, the skeleton.  The one on the left is the one I drew on the first day of school.  The drawing on the right is the one i drew a few days ago.  I think I made a huge improvement and I learned how to draw better.  I payed more attention to the fact that the ribs are all different and go around the back.  The first time I did it it was more from my stored memory of a skeleton.  Even though I didn't get to finish  my second one, I think I did a lot better because I spent more time on it and focused.  If I were to do this project again, I think I would make the ribs better, and hopefully improve all together.  I think the most difficult part of this project was trying to make the ribs look real, and make them go around the back and stuff.  That was pretty hard.  I learned a lot about drawing in this last week, and this drawing especially helped me.

Newimal Skeleton

For art, we had to draw the skeleton of a newimal, an animal that is a mix between two animals.  This is a picture of the skeleton of the body of a rabbit and the head of a fox.
